What Is NAOS?

 The National Association for Objectivity in Science (“NAOS”) is a section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the primary purpose of which is to promote objectivity in the teaching of the theory of macroevolution. Currently, most high school and university biology textbooks used in the United States do not present any scientific arguments against the theory. NAOS seeks an even-handed, balanced, objective presentation, with the arguments both pro and con presented.

The Definition

As used here, the term "theory of macroevolution" refers to the theory that:

1.

The first form of life came into existence through the random interaction of molecules in a "primordial soup"; and

2.

All forms of life thereafter have come into existence through the operation of natural selection on randomly-produced genetic mutations.

PLEASE NOTE: NAOS does not advocate “six-day creationism.” Rather, it seeks to show that there are very serious scientific problems with the theory of macroevolution, even assuming the multitudinous forms of life on earth have come into existence over a period of millions of years.

THE PROBLEM

As stated earlier, most high school and university biology textbooks used in the United States do not present any scientific arguments against the theory of macroevolution. The failure to do so may lead a student to conclude that he or she is in fact the result of random, chance processes, and has not been created or designed for any special purpose.  This in turn can have a devastating impact on the student, leading him or her to devalue human life and possibly engage in drug abuse, sexual promiscuity, or violence, or even commit suicide.

It is critical that a scientific theory that has potentially disastrous social consequences be presented objectively.  The cause of truth and the general welfare of society are both promoted if the scientific arguments both for and against the theory of macroevolution are presented.

THE ACTIVITIES OF NAOS

NAOS has been or will be engaged on a number of fronts, including the following:

  1. Accumulating and studying technical resources on the theory of macroevolution;
  2. Developing contacts with, and meeting with, supportive organizations and individuals;
  3. Developing brochures for distribution at schools and universities;
  4. Meeting with educators and promoting science curricula that present the theory of macroevolution objectively;
  5. Encouraging textbook publishers to present the theory objectively;
  6. Providing supplemental textbook materials for use in the classroom;
  7. Providing other educational materials and resources to students and teachers;
  8. Encouraging the Smithsonian and the National Park Service to present the theory objectively;
  9. Assisting in the planning of conferences and seminars; and
  10. Providing litigation support where necessary to defend a teacher's right to present the theory of macroevolution objectively.

The financial reports of NAOS are available upon request.
